Leo the Professional (Animator | Motion Designer)

Leo is a multidisciplinary designer and animator with an array of experience in 2D and 3D animation, Motion Design, illustration, commercials, live event projections, music videos, titles and content for film and TV, VR/360° and branding. After graduating from Massey University (Bachelor of Design, 1st Class Honours) in 2012, his team’s final year animation ‘Synaesthesia’ was awarded the prestigious ‘Vimeo Staff Picks Award’ and silver at the Best Awards.

Although Leo enjoys working remotely on international projects, some of his favourite projects have been for Kiwis. Some notable NZ projects he has worked on are opening titles for Wellington Paranormal (a NZ TV series from the minds of Taika and Jermaine), music videos for Six60 (In 2018 the band won five Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards) and projection content for the World of WearableArt (2013, 2014, 2019)

Leo began life in Japan but from a young age, his free-spirited single mother dragged him around the world through India, Tibet, Bali, England, Australia and finally to New Zealand where his story continued. The first school that Leo enrolled to in New Zealand was a Montesorri school of 30 students whereas the high school of his choice later on was that of 3000 students. Needless to say, from a young age he observed and absorbed the lives of people from all walks of life; and thus his creative approach is deeply tied to his philosophy on people; Everyone has a different and unique perspective and it would be a damn waste if you don’t try to understand and learn from those differences. So when it comes to design… Yes, it should most definitely be grade ‘A’ eye candy and that’s a given for anyone who takes pride in their craft… but first and foremost in any project is to take a deep dive to really understand the crux of the matter. From there, his inventory of skills are at his disposal to create a piece that best communicates the story that needs to be told.

His design goal?
To become a Jack of all trades, master of all.
